Street Closures and Parking Guidelines

In observance of Howard University’s 157th Commencement Convocation, the Office of Parking and Transportation Services will implement the following parking lot guidelines and shuttle service for Commencement week and day of, Wednesday, May 7–Saturday, May 10, 2025.

Event Parking for public lots will be a flat fee of $20 unless you have a Commencement Parking pass on your dashboard.

Road and Lot Closures May 7–May 10

  • Roads that are closed: Howard Place, 6th St, Fairmont, Bison Blvd, and Girard
  • Lots that are closed: School of Business, Childers, Miner, Burr, and Founders

Parking on Commencement Day, May 10

The available lots for public parking:

  • Howard Center Lot
  • Georgia Ave Lot
  • Banneker South Lot
  • Louis Stokes Lot  

Shuttle Service for Commencement Day, May 10

On-Campus Morning: 6 until 9 or 10 a.m.

  • We will operate 2 to 3 shuttles from 6 until 9 or 10 a.m.
  • The route will loop from Shaw Metro Station to the Howard Bookstore, then to Georgia & Fairmont, and back to Shaw Metro.
  • This loop is designed to serve guests arriving via Metro and those parked at the Howard Center Lot, with all drop-offs occurring at Georgia & Fairmont.

Off-Campus Morning: 6–9 a.m.

  • Two shuttles assigned to Mazza Route
  • One shuttle assigned to WISH Route
  • One shuttle assigned to The Lanes Apartments Route

Return Shuttle Service Afternoon: 1–4 or 5 p.m.

On-Campus Return Service

  • Shuttles will pick up from Georgia & Fairmont, stopping at the Howard Bookstore and Shaw Metro Station. They will maintain a loop along both sides of Georgia Avenue for efficient passenger flow back toward transit and parking areas.

Off-Campus Return Service

  • Shuttles will be dispatched to Mazza, WISH, and The Lanes Apartments using the same allocation as in the morning.

About Shuttle Service

Complimentary shuttle services will be available to transport guests. To locate the nearest shuttle stops in real time, please utilize the ride systems app (available in both Google Play and Apple App Store).

  1. Download “Ride Systems” app from the app store
  2. “Select Transit Agency” screen will appear
  3. Select Howard University
  4. Select the closest route to your location

ADA Accommodations 

Guests with ADA accommodation will be required to park at the Howard Center parking lot, across from the Howard University Book Store. Shuttles will be staged in front of the Howard University bookstore to transport guests to Georgia and Fairmont Street. Guests will be required to navigate from the drop-off location to the main yard. Contact parking@howard.edu for additional information regarding ADA parking accommodations.
