Congratulations to Graduating Bison of the Classes of 2020 and 2021!
Saturday, May 8th at 10am at Greene Stadium.
Watch the event live featuring keynote speaker Bryan Stevenson on WHUT, on WHUR, or on the Livestream page.
We extend our thanks to all who completed the commencement participation registration form by the deadline of April 16 at 5 p.m. EDT. Your responses have assisted the University in planning appropriately based upon the restrictions outlined in the waiver issued by the D.C. government. Unfortunately, due to these restrictions, there will be no extension of the commencement registration process.
On Saturday, May 8, 2020, the Commencement ceremony for undergraduate degree recipients will be held in Greene Stadium beginning at 10:00am. Graduates should arrive by 9:30am to be lined up and prepared for entry into the stadium. Unfortunately, secondary to District restrictions, no families, friends, nor other guests will be accommodated. The ceremony will be live streamed on WHUT, and on the University’s website.
Additionally, all participants must complete the Bisonsafe screening app, and receive a green QR code which indicates that you are “all clear” on the day of each event. The yard will be closed to any individuals not bearing a Howard University identification on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
As we have indicated previously, in this pandemic environment, all plans are subject to change. If the local government decides to withdraw approval of our plans, then we will revert to a virtual commencement. Our plans are contingent on local conditions continuing to improve as evaluated by increasing vaccination rates and diminishing COVID-19 cases; if those positive developments should reverse course in a significant way, we will revert to a virtual commencement. In the event that inclement weather the day of commencement activities should render outdoor gatherings unsafe, we will cancel those activities the morning they are scheduled to take place and modify them for a virtual platform.
Of course, in-person commencement this year will look very different than it has in years past. We will observe social distancing requirements, adhere to capacity limitations and abide by other restrictions as necessary.
Thank you all for your patience. We recognize that the uncertainty surrounding our commencement planning has not been easy for anyone, and we are grateful for your flexibility.
