The 158th Commencement will celebrate the 2026 graduating class at Howard University. Each graduate will initially receive four (4) tickets for guests. Guests must obtain tickets from graduates.

Clear Bag and Prohibited Items Policy

Howard’s Clear Bag Policy is in effect for Commencement 2026. Only clear bags no larger than 12″ x 12″ x 6″ (no larger than a fanny pack) are permitted except for medical and baby bags. Bags will be subject to screening.

2026 Honorary Degree Recipients

2026 honorary degree awardees reflect excellence across business, higher education, music, and leadership, including Rosalind Brewer, interim president of Spelman College and chair emerita of its board; Antoine Garibaldi, Ph.D. (B.A. ’73), president emeritus at the University of Detroit Mercy; Robert (Bob) Iger, immediate past CEO of The Walt Disney Company; and, posthumously, the Reverend Richard Smallwood (B.A. ’71, M.Div. ’04), music composer and choral director.
