Inclement Weather Plan

Commencement is a joyous occasion and a time to reflect on achieving a major milestone, especially for graduates, their families, faculty, alumni and friends. Due to the current weather conditions, we are activating our inclement weather plan and moving Commencement indoors. The ceremony will be held at Burr Gymnasium, located at 6th and Girard St. NW, Washington DC 20059.

Assembly of degree candidates

Members of the graduating class should still plan to assemble in the Burr Gymnasium. Please arrive no earlier than 7:00 a.m., but not later than 7:30 a.m. All graduates should sit with their respective School or College.

Guest seating

Please be advised that all guests will now be required to view the Commencement Convocation from simulcast viewing locations across campus. Seating for all categories of tickets (VIP, Reserved, and General) will be accommodated in the satellite viewing locations listed below. Please note, seating at the satellite locations will be based on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of previous ticket assignment. There is limited seating capacity, so we encourage all visitors to arrive early. Original ticket accommodations (VIP and Reserved) will not be met under the inclement weather plan. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Guests with disabilities who are driving can park at the Howard University Hospital garage located behind the hospital on V street between 4th & 5th Street NW. The Howard University shuttle will transport anyone with disabilities to Georgia Ave. & Girard Street.
